What is coaching?

“Unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them” (Whitmore 2003)

I will assist you to learn more about yourself and your relationship with money. I will help you to identify what money decisions are having a negative impact on your life. I will then support you as you learn new financial skills and put them into practice, making a positive difference to your life. Supporting you as you discover the answers for yourself helps you to stay motivated and therefore much more likely to achieve your goals.

Is coaching the same as counselling/therapy?

No, I do not focus on the past and any issues that may have arisen in the past. Coaching focuses only on the present, the future and the positive steps that you can take to create the future that you desire.

Is a financial coach similar to a financial adviser?

No, a Financial Coach will help you to understand and manage your money more effectively. A Financial Adviser will advise you about different financial products and will assist you to decide which ones are suitable for you. They will also be regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and have to meet the standards set by them.

I do not give advice or sell financial products, therefore I am not monitored by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). I will help you to get to know the different products available, such as mortgages, pensions, savings etc, but I will not recommend any of these to you.

If you do require advice or wish to purchase financial products I would recommend that you do consult an authorised independent adviser. If you need advice on debt then I would recommend that you to speak to a regulated debt counselling service.

Is coaching effective?

Yes. Coaching works by challenging you to look at things differently and by encouraging you to change the behaviours that are impacting negatively on your life. It is effective because it is you, the client who decides what changes to make and when to make them. You will also learn about your own behaviour and the impact that it has on your situation. Coaching creates a encouraging and caring environment, where you feel supported as you move outside your comfort zone and change your life for the better.

How do I know if coaching is suitable for me?

I offer a complimentary, no obligation discovery session to see if we could work together and establish whether or not coaching is something that will work for you.

What happens during a coaching course?

In the initial questionnaire I will get to know you, your financial situation and your aspirations and goals. I will encourage you to think about your financial habits and attitudes and to share your thoughts with me. This will then allow me to support and encourage you more effectively throughout the challenge.

The coaching courses are all online, accessible at any time and place, from any device. When you log in to the course, you will have access to all the coaching materials - videos, worksheets, audio clips, text information and links to further reading. As you progress through the course, I will be supporting you every step of the way, encouraging you to think more deeply about your habits, attitudes and values around money and helping you to create a happier relationship with money. You will create an action plan and set powerful goals for your future and will generate action points to complete on your journey.

How long will a course last?

The guided coaching courses will last around 4-6 weeks, but the online materials will be available to you forever.  There are also self study courses, which will take just a few hours, or be designed to run over a series of days.

Where will the coaching take place?

The coaching all takes place online - you will be given a login for the coaching platform, where you will find all the coaching materials. You will be able to access this at any time and place that suits you.

How much does coaching cost?

There are various packages available and the prices for each of these can be found on the relevant course page. Payment can be made in full or can be spread over 3 monthly payments. Payment can be accepted via bank transfer, Paypal or card payment.

It is expected that most clients will recoup their fees, and much more, through the changes made to their finances throughout the coaching process.

Do you have a code of ethics?

Coaches do not have to be registered to practice, however I am an associate member of the Association of Coaching. I abide by the AC Code of Ethics and Good Practice and have suitable Public Liability Insurance.

If a client is not completely satisfied with my services they can, in the first instance, speak to me about this. If no resolution is reached then clients can make complaints to the Association of Coaching through use of the AC Complaints form.
